Waymo has issued a recall for 672 of its driverless cars following an accident in Phoenix, Arizona. The incident involved a Waymo driverless car colliding with a telephone pole while pulling over to pick up a passenger. The recall only affects Waymo’s fleet of modified Jaguar I-Pace SUVs and requires a software update across all 672 vehicles. Waymo stated that the update will improve the vehicles’ ability to avoid poles or similar objects on the road. The company clarified that the recall will not impact its current operations and that it has already deployed mapping and software updates. Waymo is Alphabet’s autonomous vehicle subsidiary and offers driverless taxi services in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
